Police investigations continue into a shooting that occurred around 10:45 last night, Tuesday, February 9, on one of the city’s main steets. Four men were shot, including a homeless man. There were no fatalities and no arrests have been made as yet.
According to the information from witnesses, three men – Gilbert Wade, 20, a resident of Ross Pen Road; Kendell Flowers, 18, a resident of Belize City; and Dion Lord, 30, a resident of Gill Street – were repairing the tire of a vehicle, a Chevrolet Astro van, in front of Battlefield Park on Albert Street when they were ambushed by a gunman.
The homeless man, Evon Jones, 49, who was in the park at the time, suffered a gunshot wound to the back during the shooting. Witnesses say that they heard a total of 6 gunshots.
We learned from witnesses, however, that the shooter arrived in a vehicle; he stepped out and started firing shots in the direction of the three men.
All the victims were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Wade suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh, Flowers suffered gunshot wounds to the right arm and left arm, Lord suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh area, and Jones suffered a shot in the back.
The three other men were treated and released from the hospital, and only Jones had to undergo surgery; he is listed in a stable condition.
The police have since recovered five 9mm expended shells from the scene.
We discovered that there were two bullet holes in the glass window of Hofius, a business adjacent to Battlefield Park.
