Corwin Bennett, 18, charged with the murder of Raymond “Killa” Gentle

GeneralCorwin Bennett, 18, charged with the murder of Raymond “Killa” Gentle
Corwin Bennett, 18, a resident of a Plues Street address, was this morning arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Raymond “Killa” Gentle, 34.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Mackenzie, before reading the charges, told Bennett that because of the type of offence, no plea would be taken from him and that neither could any bail be offered.

Bennett was further remanded into custody until February 2, 2011.

On Friday, January 21, Bennett was arrested and charged for Gentle’s murder. Gentle, a prominent gang figure, was reportedly the leader of the Kraal Road Crips Gang. He was shot and killed on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the corner of Baracat Street and Kraal Road while he supervised the construction of a house under the Hurricane Richard Rehabilitation Program.

In a release sent out on January 13, 2011, police said that they believed that suspects for Gentle’s murder were believed to be members of the George Street Gang due to the ongoing rivalry between members of the George Street Bloods/Gill Street Gang and members of the Kraal Road Crips and Southside gangsters (SSG).

Another person, police say, is to be charged along with Bennett with relation to Gentle’s murder.
