Belize Amateur Athletics Association (BAAA) President Ian Gray had indicated to us last week when we asked for his response to the call for his censure from six members of his BAAA management committee, that their action was unconstitutional and that he would deal with them at the next general meeting when it was called. That meeting, he had advised, would have been held after the BAAA constitutional revision was completed.
But tonight, on Channel 5, we saw Mr. Gray take the bull by the horns, and declare that he was suspending for six months all six committee members who had signed the press release last week inviting BAAA members to a meeting to censure the President. This week, an abbreviated version of the press release, this one signed only by Hon. Secretary Ellison Flowers, was forwarded to our sports desk. (See press release titled, “BAAA calls special meeting to censure President,” elsewhere in this issue.)
It is left to be seen what will materialize on October 15, the date set for the meeting called by the dissenting six management committee members of the BAAA.
