The Belize District Basketball Association (BDBA) Firms Tournament 2013 continued at Birds Isle over the weekend with 3 games each on Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10, respectively.

In game 1 on Friday night, BWSL won, 55-42, over Heritage. Top scorers for BWSL were Karim Thompson 18 pts 5 rebs, Lindbergh Graham 11 pts 7 rebs 5 assts, Jamir Enriquez 11 pts and Charles Armstrong 6 pts 8 rebs; while Heritage was led by Kurt Burgess 13 pts 12 rebs 4 assts, Felix Martinez 13 pts 6 rebs 3 assts, and Devon Defour 10 pts 5 pts 3 stls. Game 2 saw Atlantic Bank with the 71-58 win over Ready Call. Leading Atlantic Bank was Evan Rene 20 pts 8 rebs 5 stls, Dave Apolonio 13 pts 5 rebs, Ervin Orosco 13 pts 4 assts, and Keith James 11 pts 8 rebs; while for Ready Call, Josiah Brown had 13 pts 4 rebs, Hubert Baptist 10 pts 9 rebs, Russell Linares 8 pts 7 rebs, George Smith 8 pts 6 rebs. And in the nightcap, it was Courts, 66-49, over Sprite, behind Tyrone Anthony 22 pts 4 rebs, Delroy Caliz 15 pts 6 rebs, Fidel Blair 13 pts 3 rebs and Leroy Gentle 10 pts 9 rebs; while Sprite was led by Deon Symms 18 pts, Michael Staine 14 pts 9 rebs, Troy Williams 12 pts and Darren Neal 8 rebs.

In the opener on Saturday, Customs & Excise/Min. of Education won, 67-61, over Belize City Council/Post Office. Top scorers for Customs/MOE were Kevin Lorenzo 29 pts, Winston Pratt 22 pts and Ephrain Phillips 10 pts; while for BCC/Post Office, Kenroy Usher had 14 pts, Densford Bevans 10 pts and Cordel Gonzalez, Jr. 9 pts. Game 2 was a blowout, as Belize Bank/Broadway Trust demolished PUC/CBA/Fisheries by an 85-41 margin. High men for Belize Bank/Broadway Trust were Marcel Orozco 23 pts, Troy Gabb 20 pts and Terrique Gabb 18 pts; while for PUC/CBA/ Fisheries, Andrew Robateau had 12 pts, Claudio Leal 8 pts and Raymond Charley 7 pts. And in the nightcap, Port of Belize/Airport was tested, but came away with a close 79-75 victory over Central Health Region/Audit Dept. Leading the scoring for Port were Vince Estrada 24 pts, Lennox Bowman 22 pts and Ian Augustine 15 pts; while Central Health had Neil Richardson 23 pts, Wilfred Richards 14 pts and Steven Wade 10 pts.

The standings so far are, in Division A (6 teams) – Atlantic Bank (3-0 for 6 pts), Belize Bank (3-0 for 6 pts), BWSL (1-2 for 4 pts), Heritage Bank (1-2 for 4 pts), Ready Call (1-2 for 4 pts), and PUC/CBA (0-3 for 3 pts); and in Division B (7 teams) – Central Health (2-1 for 5 pts), Customs & Excise (2-1 for 5 pts), Ports of Belize (2-0 for 4 pts), Courts (1-2 for 4 pts), Belize City Council (1-1 for 3 pts), BTL (1-1 for 3 pts), and Bowen & Bowen (0-3 for 3 pts). Two points are given for a victory, 1 for a loss, but none for a default loss.

At the end of the group round-robins (5 games in Group A, and 6 games in Group B), the #1 and #2 seeds from each group qualify directly to the quarterfinals. The #3, #4, #5 and #6 seeds from both Group A and Group B then play in a knockout round, with the 4 winners making it to the quarterfinals.
