BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Oct. 13, 2016–According to a release yesterday from the Belize District Football Association (BDFA), under Chairman William Moguel, playoffs were held on Monday, October 10, at the MCC Grounds for the previously suspended McLean Insurance Brokers Under-17 Football Championship. Games in this tournament were suspended following the weekend National U-17 Championship finals on August 21 in Belmopan, which was won by the Belize District selection.

In trying to complete its playoffs in one day, the games on Monday were 25-25 (25 minute halves). Scoring details were not provided in some games due to incomplete referee reports, according to Chairman Moguel.

In game 1, Hattieville Riverside Boys eliminated Carlston FC, 2-1.

In game 2, Fabro’s Young Warriors eliminated Ladyville Jaguars, 5-1.

Game 3 was the first semifinal, and saw Hattieville Riverside Boys eliminating San Pedro United, 8-7, in sudden death penalties, after ending 1-1 in regulation. Hattieville had taken the lead on a penalty by Jadon “Cheetes” McGregor, but Arnold Flowers equalized the score for San Pedro.

In game 4, the second semifinal, Young Warriors eliminated Brown Bombers, 4-1. Kenny Linares put the Warriors in front; Tyreek “Pippin” Muschamp of Bombers equalized the score at 1-1; but Akeem “Bib” Sutherland then scored a hat trick (3 goals) to give the Warriors the 4-1 victory.

The third-place game was then played between San Pedro United and Brown Bombers, and it was San Pedro prevailing, 2-1, with goals from Christian Medina and Ian Pou; while Eshaq King scored for the Bombers.

Late word this evening from the BDFA is that the U-17 championship game will be played on Sunday, October 30, the earliest available date for the MCC. Awards will also be given out after the championship game.
