Immediately following the ongoing rainy session that the city has currently been under, the Belize City, United Democratic Party’s City Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, will begin a street rejuvenation project for numerous city streets, ranging from the South side to the North side of the city.
The project will be extremely costly, and City Councilor, Dean Samuels told us in an interview today that the total cost is over one million dollars. Samuels told us that the majority funding for this project is coming through Central Government.
According to Samuels, known pothole infested streets, worsened by the frequent rains, in areas such as Port Loyola and Lake Independence area, will be targeted, while other streets will also be paved, and drainage fixed around the city including the North side.
“Rehabilitation, by next week it should be in full swing… Definitely, the fixing of the streets is always ongoing by the council,” Samuels told us.
However, the weather is being monitored. Samuels told us also that construction will be done by the Ministry of Works, along with other companies.
