Belize gets ready for world premiere of Evolution

FeaturesBelize gets ready for world premiere of Evolution
The debut screening of Evolution, a Belizean-made documentary of the real life story of famous Belizean entertainer, Berne Velasquez, is set to happen at the Princess Hotel and Casino at 3:00 and 4:30 on the afternoon of Saturday, March 28, in Belize City, and on the 29th at the Movie 7 Theatre in San Ignacio, Cayo, at the Old Mall.

“It’s telling a real story of a young Belizean who ventured out into America to go chase his dreams, looking for happiness,” said Berne, in introducing his project to Amandala this evening.

“If I can win back our youths, and I believe I will, when they see the Evolution documentary – I feel the music that comes with the CD, is something that will open their eyes. It will teach the ignorant, calm the angry, uplift the despondent,” he added.

Berne tells our newspaper that his main target for the documentary is Belize’s troubled youth, whose lives he hopes he can touch with an empowering message of hope.

“I feel like right now, the crime situation in Belize is ridiculous, and I feel it’s because many of our youths are misled. I believe that many of our youths have been told a lie, and they believe in this lie, and that’s why they are chasing the vanity. I feel like a lot of the crime is directly related to them feeling lesser than and not knowing their self-worth,” he declared.

The launch of the Evolution documentary also coincides with the launch of Berne’s second album, coming on the heels of his success with Life After Deportation – somewhat of a self-fulfilled prophecy about his eventual deportation from the United States.

On Saturday, March 28, after the debut documentary screening, Berne will have available copies of his accompanying Evolution CD, now available in stores.

That compilation’s first track is an emotive appeal titled, Stop the Violence, featuring artists like Tanya Carter, Nello Player, 357, and Ras Scorpion.

Berne will also shortly launch his outreach program for schools across Belize, as well as his performance tour, in an effort to spread his anti-violence message across the length and breadth of Belize.

The artist also plans to screen his DVD abroad.
