Belize High School “Sharing and Caring” for Youth Cadets

EducationBelize High School “Sharing and Caring” for Youth Cadets

Last Thursday, April 10, youths from the National Youth Service Cadets Corp. located at Mile 21 on the George Price Highway were provided with 28 Easter baskets at the House of Shotokan Karate Academy on Princess Margaret Drive in Belize City.

The baskets contained personal hygiene products including soap, toothpaste, dental floss, shampoo, mouthwash, deodorant, hair gel and other bathroom products which were provided by students of the Belize High School (BHS) in Belize City.

The high school students personally handed the gift baskets to the Youth Cadets as part of a program known as “Sharing is Caring” which was put in place by BHS to promote positive attitudes between high school students.

The group of Belize High School (BHS) students – who were part of a Business Finance class – were tasked with implementing different business ideas – such as selling fruit juices, cakes and other food items – that would generate profit and subsequently utilized the profit to purchase items and donate those items to other teenagers who are undergoing personal challenges in life.

The initiative – which was fostered under the guidance of Business Finance teacher Tania Kelly – was intended to teach the students how to appreciate money and its use as well as establishing a budget and budgeting techniques, business ideas, loans and savings, and investment.

We understand that the cadets were appreciative of the donations and the high school students were equally excited to donate the items to their fellow teenagers.
