Belize National U-20 to El Salvador for UNCAF Qualifiers, July 17-29

According to a release today from the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), leaving the FFB headquarters in Belmopan by bus this afternoon were members of the Belize National U-20 Male Team along with the team’s technical staff members. The delegation is headed to El Salvador where the National U-20 squad will represent Belize in the UNCAF (Central American) U-20 Qualifiers for the next CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The UNCAF Qualifiers, including 7 Central American teams – Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama – will take place from July 17 to 29.

In the UNCAF Qualifiers, each of the seven participating teams will face each other once, with the top four teams progressing to the CONCACAF U-20 tournament, which will determine the Confederation’s representatives to the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Getting out of these Qualifiers will not be easy. In the last UNCAF U-20 Qualifiers, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama made it to the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Mexico.

The Belize delegation consists of:

National U-20 Team Players: Norman Anderson, Jamil Cano, Clinton Dawson, Randy Duke, Eduardo Gongora, Eridito Guillen, Darroll Lambey, Marcus Lewis, Dorwin Logan, Hassan Lucas, Geon Makin, Darren Myers, Edmond Pandy, Jr., Jordi Polanco, Gerri Trejo, Collin Westby, Naim Wilson, Devaun Zuniga.

Technical Staff: Head Coach – Edmond Pandy; Assistant Coach – Dennis Serrano; Physiotherapist – Thomas Rivars; Doctor – Elfryn Reyes, M.D.; Equipment Manager – Herbert Trapp, Jr.

FFB Technical Director Renan Couoh, who posed for the above picture with the U-20 squad, will not be accompanying them on the trip, as he reportedly has other duties presently with preparation of the National U-15 and the National “A” teams. Missing from the team picture above are players Jamil Cano and Eduardo Gongora, who are expected to join the rest of the delegation when the bus passes Benque Viejo.

The games of the UNCAF U-20 Qualifier tournament will be played at two venues – the Estadio Cuscatlan (natural grass) in San Salvador, El Salvador; and the Estadio Las Delicias (artificial turf) in Santa Tecla City, El Salvador.

Belize will play against El Salvador on July 17 at Cuscatlan; Belize vs Nicaragua on July 21 at Cuscatlan; Belize vs Panama on July 23 at Las Delicias; Belize vs Honduras on July 25 at Cuscatlan; Belize vs Costa Rica on July 27 at Las Delicias; and Belize vs Guatemala on July 29 at Cuscatlan.
