A burglary attempt on a residence on New Road was foiled by vigilant neighbors when they saw a thief jump over the fence into a neighbor’s yard. They called police, who responded quickly.

The thief quickly escaped out of the yard when he saw police coming, but he escaped empty handed.

The incident occurred about 10:00 this morning at a residence between the New Road and Rhaburn Alley areas.

The homeowner told Amandala that the thief did not enter the house. He said that he was at work when he was called and told that a thief had attempted to get into the house, but the police had come quickly.

Police are looking for the thief.
