The two-flat uninsured house of Augustine Martinez, 82, of Carillo Puerto Avenue, Santa Elena Town Cayo District, and his belongings, were completely destroyed by fire at about 10:45 Saturday night.
Martinez lived in the lower flat of the house, while Evelyn Estell, lived in the upper flat.
Martinez reported that she was asleep in her house when she was awakened by smoke and heat. She got up to see what was happening, and saw that the house was on fire. She quickly escaped the inferno. Estell also made it to safety.
Martinez said that the house was not ensured.
The Fire Service has begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.
