SportsChess news – a message from Acting B.C.F. President, Kofi Geban
The members of the Police Department today mourn the death of W. Sergeant Anderson. She is sadly missed, was an upright and true representative of the Belize Police Department.

Over thirty youth of Police Cadet Mahogany Street Police Station Branch gathered and learned the introductory level of the game of chess. Present to coordinate were W.S.C. Castillo and P.C. Teck. Master chess instructor Santos Carbahal, who is also the Youth Director at the Belize Chess Institute, gave instructions. An arrangement continues with Constable Timmons at the Yabra Community Police to facilitate chess learning at that next stop, providing a snowballing effect toward the grand planned summer camp to be held, courtesy the Belize Institute of Chess, at the ITVET University Center on July 5 – 9, where two hundred youth from the Belize and Orange Walk districts will gather to learn chess.

The Belize National Closed Chess Championship Tournament is slated for September, to synchronize with the national festivity/celebrations. A F.I.D.E. official will be present.

The Belize Chess Federation (BCF) was registered with FIDE, the international federation, in the year 1986, when both our logo and constitution were approved. Our motto is “To the benefit of all people”. You are encouraged to visit the FIDE web site.

The Belize Chess Federation is about the unity of chess in our nation under one national umbrella organization.
