SportsChess News
The Belize Chess Institute (BCI) conducted a Junior Chess Tournament for the Mesop Police Cadet Chess Club. Thirty kids from the “Youth at Risk” project, including twenty-five boys and five young ladies, participated in the games.

Present to facilitate the project were Sgt. Marin and P.C. Perez assisting BCI Youth Director, Special Constable Carbajal, all advocates of the philosophy, “Youth will care to listen when community leaders start listening with care”; that what kids need is just the reassurance that they are loved; that exhibiting love makes people kin to God – “Where there is love, there is justice.”

It was a special thrill to see two-year old Tira Cain learning chess moves. Our dearly appeal goes out to the business sector in our community. “You too have a very important role in demonstrating the concept of community; this is about ‘people living together with people’.”

Winners of the tournament are as follows: Male – 1st place Kyle Rodriguez; 2nd Malique Rose; 3rd Hynes; 4th Christopher Wilson; 5th David Fuller; 6th Yonajo Leslie. Female – 1st place Tania Murillo; 2nd Bryoni Terry; 3rd Tiffany Cain; 4th Dedra Terry.

The Belize Chess Federation (BCF) believes that chess makes kids smart.
