DANGRIGA, Wed. Feb. 1, 2017–Secondary schools football

In last week Friday’s do-or-die game from the Dangriga Zone between the males of Ecumenical and Delille Academy, after 60 minutes of serious, hard, competitive action, the match ended in a 3 to 3 draw. It was a must-win for Delille Academy males. Ecumenical males only needed a draw, since both schools were tied in points, but Ecumenical was up by a 1-goal difference.

That draw sent Ecumenical males to the District Regional Finals along with Delille Academy females from the Dangriga Zone this Saturday, February 4, hosted by George Town Technical High at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. From the Independence Zone will be George Town Technical High males and females, along with Independence High males and females.  From the Toledo Zone will be Julian Cho males and females.

The Regionals start at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday.

Primary schools football

Stann Creek District Sports Council Primary Schools Zone Football will get started on February 16, which will be the Valley Zone, hosted by Light of Valley; February 17, Dangriga Zone at the Carl Ramos Stadium; February 21, Independence Zone, venue – Bella Vista; February 23, Hopkins Zone, venue – Sittee River.

District Regional Finals will be on March 3 at the Carl Ramos Stadium. Schools can get in contact with Sports Coordinator, Trina Villafranco at 631-1459 or the Sports Council office at 502-0085.

PLB football

After a weak start in the Premier League of Belize Closing Tournament Week 1 last week for Dangriga’s home team, Wagiya at the MCC Grounds against the BDF, our home team Wagiya is ready to bounce back this Sunday, February 5, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carl Ramos Stadium against FC Belize.

Adults will be $7.00; high school students with I.D. – $5.00; kids 12 years and under enter for FREE. Half-time raffle at the half. Big musical entertainment all evening long.

It’s the young and talented Wagiya Football Club vs FC Belize. All are invited from Dangriga and surrounding villages.

It’s a family affair!  Sport brings people together!!

NEBL basketball

It was an 8-point loss for our home team, Dangriga Dream Ballers, last week Friday at Ecumenical Basketball Auditorium against the Cayo Western Ballaz.

That was a big, huge turnout, with basketball fans from all over Dangriga and surrounding villages who came out and supported their home team, Dangriga Dream Ballers.

The feedback from all the fans down south is positive. Everybody loves their team for this season, and are ready to support all the way to the very end.

Dangriga Dream Ballers will rest this weekend, and next weekend Griga Dream Ballers will be in Belize City to see action against Belize Hurricanes.

Big-up to all the young players and our two imports from the United States of America, one from California and one from Nashville, Tennessee.

Big-up to our executive body for the Dangriga Dream Ballers, who all came up late and took control to keep this franchise in the culture capital of Belize, Dangriga.

There are still fan T-shirts on sale at Kush Barber Shop. It’s all about Dangriga colours – yellow, black and white; different sizes.

Mayor’s Cup Tournament 2017

This year’s 2017 Mayor’s Cup is set and ready to go. Action kicks off with a Grand Marathon on Sunday, February 12, starting at 11:00 a.m. All teams must assemble at the Carl Ramos Stadium by 10:00 a.m.

Registration per team is $80.00. First place receives $1,000.00; second place – $500.00; third place – $300.00. That’s for the Marathon.

The regular season will kick off on weekend of Sunday, March 12, with two games on Friday and two games on Sunday.

Registration per team for the regular season will be $350.00. First prize will walk away for the first time in a Mayor’s Cup tournament with ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00); second place will be five thousand dollars ($5,000.00); third prize will be two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00).

All teams in Dangriga got to be serious and ready for this big Mayor’s Cup Tournament in Dangriga. Your team must be strong enough to survive this tournament.

There will be a meeting next weekend for all team captains, coaches and owners at the third flat of the Dangriga Town Council office.

For this Mayor’s Cup season, we have the Belize Coast Guards and Gaylen University taking part.
