E-jay Hill voted D-J of the year

GeneralE-jay Hill voted D-J of the year

We spoke with him and he told us about his work here on the Kremandala compound.

Hill, who was inspired from a child, does not only share a natural talent as a DJ, but he was also educated in the field of broadcasting in the United States. He was inspired in New York by the late Frankie Crocker from WBLS. ?I was so happy to go to school and do my education, and now I am doing what I really love to do in life, being a DJ.?

E-jay told us about his experiences as a DJ here in Belize, which started about four years ago. He was initially with Power Mix in Dangriga, and came here with the #1 station, KREM Radio, three years ago.

Hill has a very busy schedule. He has the Love Jam Sessions, the Quiet Storm Show on Tuesday nights, which has a large female audience, Old School Wednesdays, which was originally hosted by Vonetta Burrell, and the ?Phreaky Phridays?, which is just what the name says – freaky that caters for the mature audiences.

The hours for his shows were cut, and he said that the reason was because he also works as the sports columnist for the Amandala.

What keeps Hill motivated are his listeners. To take my audiences through the day is what I care about.

?I appreciate the award very much, and I continue to take my shows to a higher level and I continue to take it higher and higher,? said Hill.

Hill does not allow his callers to do over-the-air dedications, but he did let us in on a few of the ?weird? calls. ?I had a listener from Jamaica send me some clothes ?I have had propositions from women to meet them after my shifts are over at nights ?I have had tickets offered to me to fly to Placencia to meet women. It comes with the job, but I have to be professional.

?I appreciate the attention from my female audiences; they do have men who don?t like me for being smooth, but that is just my personality.?

Hill said that one of the weirdest things that happened to him was when he met his nephew?s friend, who started to cry at the sound of his voice. She hugged him and she trembled and he explained to her that he is human, just like her.

Hill said that he knows that there are people who are intimidated by his work. He stressed that no one needs to be intimidated, because he just does what he enjoys.

Apart from playing slow jams, he also, at times, counsels a few of his listeners who have ?man problems.?

Many of his listeners may be wondering if he is single, but sorry, ladies he is already in a committed relationship.

Those who went to the Award Show may be wondering why he did not show up for his award. E-jay, who is very family-oriented, was with his mom.

?My mom is my life,? he said. He was already scheduled to be with her, and the other reason was because he is a very ?shy guy.?

?I cater to the people; I don?t cater to myself,? said Hill, ?I appreciate my listeners a lot. If it wasn?t for them, I wouldn?t have been where I am,? said Hill.
