CrimeEldon Hendy, 36, arraigned for traffic fatality which killed Gregory Lopez, 75

This morning, Eldon Hendy, 36, a technician of Isabella Bank, Belize District, was charged with manslaughter by negligence, driving without due care and attention, and causing death by careless conduct, after he allegedly knocked down and killed Gregory Lopez, 75, on December 4, 2013.

According to police, Lopez was riding his bicycle on the Philip Goldson Highway, and when he was between miles 6 and 7, a white Dodge Ram pickup with license plate BZ C-36889 hit Lopez’s bike, causing him to be thrown onto the street. Lopez suffered severe head and body injuries and died on the spot.

Hendy was unrepresented when he appeared before Magistrate Dale Cayetano. Due to the nature of the offenses, no pleas were taken from him.

Hendy was offered bail of $6,000 and one surety of the same amount, which he met.

He is scheduled to reappear in court on March 4, 2014.
