HeadlineEpilepic found dead in pit latrine

PUNTA GORDA–Herbert Francis, 33, a resident of Eldridgeville, Punta Gorda, who suffered from seizures, yesterday was found dead in a pit latrine with his feet up and his head at the bottom of the latrine. Police took him out, and took him to the Punta Gorda Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Francis suffered a seizure and fell head-first into the pit, causing him to suffocate. He was found about 10 hours after he fell into the pit, police said.

No foul play is suspected, and the death has been ruled to have resulted from a seizure and suffocation.

A woman in whose yard the latrine is located told police that at about 7:00 yesterday morning, she got up and went to use the outdoor latrine, and when she got inside, she saw two feet extending through the latrine opening. She quickly ran into the house and alerted her brother, who went to the latrine and saw the man, who appeared dead, in the latrine.

Police reported that the man, identified as Herbert Francis, a resident of the village, had been socializing in the village that Saturday night and went to use the latrine.

Police said that when Francis was recovered from the hole, there were no signs of violence on his body, so no foul play is suspected.

The body has been deposited at the morgue and awaits a post-mortem to certify the cause of death.
