Eulogy for Henry Agusta Gill, a.k.a. Boxer

SportsEulogy for Henry Agusta Gill, a.k.a. Boxer

BELIZE CITY, Sat. June 20, 2015–Henry Gill, better known as “the Boxer,” was truly a boxer. He was born on January 20, 1953, in Belize City, the son of Henry Gill, Sr. and Olivia Henderson (of the United States.) He is survived by his four kids: Vernal Gill, Rasheda Gill, Bianca Gill and Malcolm Gill of the United States; one sister, Ms. Althea Neal; five brothers: Gilbert Neal, Larry Neal, Deron Humes, Egbert Francis, Hugh Prince Leacock; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He started his boxing career in Belize, and worked at Customs before migrating to the United States in 1976 at the tender age of 23. He loved boxing, and was always at somebody’s gym, either practicing or training the youths in that area, for that was his passion.

Boxer was a very friendly guy, and had many wonderful friends. One of them was Ms. Tanisha Arnold; he talked a lot about her. He was crazy about his many nieces and nephews, and would often shadow box with the boys. Henry had a big heart, and was so generous.

Four years ago, Henry was back in Belize; and boy, was he thrown for a loop at the vast change that had occurred in Belize. But he loved every minute of it, all the while talking about moving back to the States. While in Belize, he was blessed with the love and kindness of Mark and Michael Neal, the proud owners of Body 2000.

In April of this year, he had launched his boxing club, “Henry Gill Boys and Girls Boxing Club,” and every evening after school, he trained kids at the gym. Boy, Henry was back in his elements, and was at the gym every day. Can you believe it; the man loved the gym so much, he went in to eternity from there.

Henry, we will miss you, our brother, friend, son and father. May your soul find eternal rest.

We love you, and we won’t say goodbye; but we’ll say, until we meet again.

The Family wishes to say thanks to all who called, visited, gave and stood with us at this time.
