GeneralFabio Paredez, 46, loses the battle for his life after surviving 3+ days

He was shot on Saturday night on Kelly Street

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Mar. 28, 2018– Fabio Paredez, 46, a well-known upholstery shop owner of Belize City, lost the battle for his life after he was shot multiple times at about 10:00 Saturday night on Kelly Street by one of two gunmen who rode up on bicycles and shot him in the leg — causing damage to one of his major blood vessels.

Paredez was rushed in a critical condition to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where doctors tried to save him. His condition took a turn for the worse, however, and he died at about 6:30 this morning in the hospital while receiving treatment.

Police said that at the time of the shooting on Saturday night, Paredez was socializing on Kelly Street with some friends.

During the weekly Monday morning police press brief held at the Raccoon Street Police Station, ASP Alejandro Cowo, Commander of Crimes Investigation Eastern Division, told us that the shooting was due to ongoing street gang rivalry, and that Paredez was not the intended target; rather it was some of the men with whom he had been socializing.

A murder investigation has now been launched into Paredez’s death.
