CrimeFamily escapes robbery attempt on road to Orange Walk

Martha Ligia Salgado, 37, a Nicaraguan businesswoman of the Orange Walk District; her son, 10; and her son-in-law, 21, are unhurt after a bandit fired a shotgun blast at them in his attempt to stop their vehicle at about 2:00 p.m. yesterday, Thursday.

Salgado reported that they were traveling in her pickup truck on the road from Sarteneja to Orange Walk and had been slowly rolling over a little bridge on the feeder road between Little Belize and Progresso villages when she saw a man dressed in a camouflage shirt, wearing camouflage long pants, with a rag tied over his face, armed with a shotgun, coming out of the bushes on the left hand side of the road.

The man pointed the gun in their direction. At the time, he was about 15 feet away from the vehicle.

On seeing this, the driver, her son-in-law, stepped on the gas and sped away. Salgado ducked and pulled her son to the floor. They then heard the explosion of a shotgun blast, which the gunman had fired at their escaping vehicle.

The shaken victims drove directly to the Orange Walk police and reported the incident. No one was injured, nor was the vehicle damaged

Police said that they quickly went to the area, where they carried out an area search. They found two men in the area, who were detained.
