GeneralFarmer released on $7,500 bail for sexual offenses

BELIZE CITY, Fri. May 25, 2018– Jose Angel Martinez, 55, a farmer of St. Margaret Village, who was remanded to prison after he was arraigned on two counts of sexual assault, one of them for an act of assault against a woman, 28, and the other for an act of sexual assault against the woman’s 6-year-old daughter, was released on a bail of $7,500 that was offered to him today by Justice Colin Williams.

The bail was granted on the condition that Martinez does not contact or interfere in any way with the complainants; that he attends Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on each and every adjournment date until the case has concluded; that he reports to the police station in St. Margaret Village twice every week; and that he does not leave Belize without the court’s permission.

The woman and her daughter reported to the police that between April 1 and April 15 (precise date unknown), Martinez kissed them on their private parts.

Martinez is a naturalized Belizean, originally from Guatemala.
