A father of three children, Jahmeel Richardson, also known as “Cash”, is fighting for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot in his back and legs at about 1:00 on Good Friday morning, in a yard on Partridge Street Extension.
His prognosis is grim. Doctors said that he may become paralyzed from his waist down. His family said that he is not moving and complains of pain.
Police said that Richardson and a friend of his were relaxing in their yard when gunmen entered the yard from the rear and opened fire on them, hitting Richardson. The gunmen then ran off.
Richardson’s friend rushed him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where it was determined that his spine had been damaged.
Tanesha Chavez, Richardson’s relative, said that they have been advised by the doctors that he will be paralyzed. She said that the family wants to relocate him to another facility where more can be done for him. They are at a loss as to why he was shot, because he was not involved in gang violence, she said. He worked hard to provide for his three children, and is a loving father, and they want to do more for him.
The family, however, is being overwhelmed with the mounting medical bills, and is seeking public assistance. They are requesting that members of the community make generous monetary donations to assist the father of three so that he can be made well again, to continue to work and provide for his children.
Donations can be deposited to Atlantic Bank account 211307968, and Tanesha Chavez can be contacted at phone number 633- 8469.
Chavez said that the family will conduct a barbeque fund raising effort on Saturday, April 6, on Vernon Street near the Cox Tire Shop. It will begin at 11:00 a.m. Barbecue dinners will be priced at $7 and up. Everyone is urged to support the efforts of the family.
