FC Belize’s back-up goalkeeper, Alden “AC” Augustine, 35, who allegedly broke into the house of his ex-common law wife two days in a row and sexually assaulted her on both occasions, appeared in the #3 Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 23. He was charged with aggravated burglary, burglary and two counts of aggravated assault of an indecent nature.
Augustine pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution, represented by sergeant Pablo Pinkney, objected to bail on the grounds that, if released on bail, the defendant could pose a danger to the complainant.
When asked to give a good reason why he should be granted bail, Augustine told Magistrate Roberto Ordonez that he is the sole provider for his 7 children. Magistrate Ordonez then offered him bail of $5,000 on the condition that he does not interfere with the complainant or try to contact her in any way.
Augustine’s case was adjourned until December 21.
The first incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20. The complainant, a 27-year-old waitress of Victoria Street, reported to the police that she arrived home about 11 p.m. and found Augustine inside her house. She said that Augustine grabbed her in the front of her blouse and threw her on the bed. She told police that Augustine “fingered” her and smelled his hand afterwards.
The woman, who is the mother of Augustine’s 3-year-old daughter, said she managed to push Augustine off her. When she stood up, Augustine put the 6-inch blade of a knife to her throat and accused her of leaving him for another man..
She said that she freed herself from his grasp and went to the police station, where she reported the incident. She then returned home and went to bed, she said.
She told police that at about 3 a.m. the following day she awoke because she felt someone on her bed and when she got up she saw that the person was Augustine. He told her that it would be the last time he would have sex with her and he proceeded to finger her and suck her left breast.
She said she managed to free herself again and she went to the police station a second time and made a report.
Police detained Augustine on Thursday, November 22.
