Giovanni Saldano, 23, a popular barber of West Street in Belize City, is dead.
A gunman began firing at Saldano while he was walking on West Street around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, and chased him into his own yard, on West Street, where he was then shot to death.
Saldano died on the spot after he was hit multiple times.
People in the area, alarmed by the many gunshots, quickly called the police, who came almost immediately, and found him lying on the ground.
Police took his body to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, at around 1:30 p.m.
Witnesses say that around 17 shots were fired at Saldano, while police say that they recovered, while police say that they recovered nine 9mm shells and two slugs from the scene.
Reports are that Saldano was returning home after buying some items from a nearby Chinese shop when a man dressed in black and wearing a camouflaged cap began firing at him.
Saldano tried to escape the gunman by running into his yard, but the gunman continued chasing him, firing more shots.
Saldano collapsed in his yard, and the killer then escaped.
A family friend told Amandala that Soldano was a close associate of the late Andre Trapp, who was the known boss of a street gang in the city known as the South Side Gangsters.
Police have not yet established a motive for the murder, and the killer has not yet been captured.
