When police visited the area, they saw a Hispanic woman, naked, with severe bruises to various parts of the body. The woman was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital in Corozal, where she was pronounced dead on arrival and later identified as Vivian Cruz. Police say that Cruz was last seen around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30, when she and a female friend had gotten off a bus and were waiting at the junction on the Northern Highway to go into Bella Vista. The friend told police that she had walked a distance away from Cruz to get a ride. She didn?t succeed, and when she returned, Cruz was gone. It is suspected that Cruz got into a white Astro van that was driven by Rodriguez, who is the owner of the vehicle. According to a post-mortem performed on the body today, Cruz died from traumatic shock due to multiple injuries to the head that was caused as a result of a blow from a blunt object. Police have not yet been able to recover the object used. Police await the result of forensic tests from samples that were taken from the body. It is not yet verified whether Cruz was raped. Magistrate Emerita Ascoli, who conducted the arraignment, remanded Rodriguez, Balan and Estrella to the Hattieville Prison. The men are scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, July 19.
