Nolberto Recinos, 26, of Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, has been read charges of committing an unnatural crime in the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court.

The charges stem not from inappropriate acts with a young child, but alleged intercourse with a young bull calf (male cow) that was grazing in the Hillview Area of town on September 27, 2011.

Around one that afternoon, a security guard of Santa Elena, Patrocinio Petillo, reported to police that he found a man, later identified as Recinos, apparently engaged in intercourse with the calf. Recinos was immediately detained and charged two days later.

In court before Magistrate Dale Cayetano, Recinos was unable to give his date of birth and occupation, and the court prosecutor raised objections to bail on the ground that he is a danger to himself and the public.

Magistrate Cayetano offered bail of $2,000 to Recinos, but he could not meet it and was remanded to the Central Prison. He will return to court on December 13, 2011.
