ORANGE WALK TOWN, Wed. Feb. 14, 2018– Hilmar “David” Alamilla, 42, a former campaign manager for Orange Walk North area representative Hon. Gaspar “Gapi” Vega, today appeared before Magistrate Albert Hoare in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court for a preliminary inquiry to determine if he would be committed for trial for murder in the Supreme Court.

The prosecution submitted key evidence and a list of 19 witnesses to be presented during the trial. Magistrate Hoare was satisfied that there is a prima facie case against Alamilla, sufficient to commit him to stand trial in the Northern Session of the Supreme Court in April of this year.

Alamilla will be tried for the July 2017 murder of Orange Walk resident, Daniel “Danny Boy” Sosa, 24. It is alleged that Alamilla shot Sosa in the head while he was seated in the passenger’s seat of Alamilla’s truck outside a popular night club (a bullet hole was found in the window near the passenger’s seat).

Sosa’s body was then dumped in the parking lot of the D*Victoria Hotel in Orange Walk Town.

Alamilla’s defence lawyer, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, had told Amandala that Alamilla’s gun had accidentally discharged while he was driving.

Two other men who were inside the vehicle at the time gave sworn statements to the Orange Walk police to the contrary, but one of them, Gustavo Hernandez, 21, was murdered a month and a half later.

Last September, Hernandez was walking on the San Antonio Road when a gunman rode up to him and shot him dead.

During the hearing today, Wednesday, the prosecution alleged that its witnesses were being intimidated by Alamilla’s friends.
