Karl Galvez, 33, murdered on South Street Bridge

GeneralKarl Galvez, 33, murdered on South Street Bridge
Karl Galvez, 33, a laborer of a Fourth Street address in the Kings Park area, was murdered on the South Creek Bridge on Saturday, October 15, 2011, just after 9:30 p.m.

At this point, it is unclear why Galvez was murdered, but residents of Curassow Street have told Amandala that the close proximity to Kraal Road may have played a role in his shooting death.

Very little about the events that took place before Galvez’s murder is known to us, but police have confirmed that he was walking across the South Creek Bridge with a female. This bridge links Curassow Street with South Creek Road. Kraal Road ends right at its intersection with South Creek Road, which is on the opposite side of the bridge.

While Galvez was on the bridge with this still-unknown young woman, who police have identified as his girlfriend, a man rode up behind the two of them, pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot at Galvez, which reportedly hit him in the back and exited the left side of the chest.

Galvez collapsed on the bridge, and he bled to death before any of the authorities could arrive and assist him. The gunman escaped moments after he had fatally shot his victim.

His relatives are shocked and unable to explain his sudden death. They described him as a family man who kept to himself, and they said that he had no known enemies.

Residents in the area have told the media that the bushy area and the lack of a lamp post in the near vicinity of the bridge could have led to the successful attack on Galvez. They say that the area is ideal for gang-related violence.

We also were told that Galvez may have been in the wrong area at the wrong time.

Up to press time tonight, no one has been arrested or detained for questioning.
