Male and female senior volleyball teams from all areas of the country were in Belmopan this past weekend to compete in the National Senior Volleyball Championships hosted by the City of Belmopan Volleyball Association (CBVA).
After 25 matches, 22 hours of volleyball, over two days of tough and very competitive matches, Lady Jaguars and Scorpions repeated as National Champions in the female and male categories, respectively. Moen Stars (female) and Orange Walk Bad News (male) placed second. Lady Jaguars overcame an early surge by Moen Stars to win the final match in 2 straight sets, 25-22, 25-12; while Scorpions had to use every bit of skill and energy to overcome the surprise of the tournament, Orange Walk Bad News, 25-22, 22-25, and 15-13 in the deciding set of the Championship match.
Belmopan Defendaz and Dangriga placed 3rd and 4th, respectively, in the female division; while PG and another surprise, Corozal Hardcore from Santa Clara tied for 3rd in the male division.
The tournament was another huge success, demonstrating the increase in technical level and participation at high level volleyball. Congratulations to Lady Jaguars and Scorpions in winning the championship, and thanks to all the volunteers, officials, executive members of the BVA, and to the CBVA for hosting the tournament.
