Lucky Strike breaks the ice, and Texmar “get drop” in Week 5 of Super League football

SportsLucky Strike breaks the ice, and Texmar “get drop” in Week 5 of Super League football
Belize Bank Super League Tournament

Things are beginning to look interesting in Week 5 of Super League action, as formerly undefeated defending champs Texmar Boys took their first loss, while cellar dwellers Lucky Strike Black Orchid registered their first semipro victory in front of their home fans at Lucky Strike. And with Kraal Road getting hot with a blowout of City Rivals Lake-Collet Survivors, the game of the week this Sunday afternoon at the MCC has to be Kraal Road F.C. against visiting Texmar Boys.

Saturday night’s City clash between Kraal Road F.C. and Lake-Collet Survivors looked like a real contest in the first half, with Kraal Road enjoying a 1-nil lead, courtesy of Delroy “Tin Man” Andrews’ strike at the 17th minute. But Tin Man made it 2-nil after the resumption with his second goal at the 58th minute, followed by Leon Jones at the 66th and Raymond Gentle at the 75th, for the final 4-nil score. Kraal Road strikers Delroy Andrews and Raymond Gentle are on a roll lately, scoring 6 goals between them in their last two outings. Their showdown with Texmar Boys from Independence this weekend is a game you don’t want to miss.

Also on Saturday night, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, home squad Valley Renaissance out-gunned the visiting Cayo South United, 6-3. Both teams got on the scorecard early, Dwayne Sampson shaking the net at the 2nd minute for Valley, with Wayne Anderson replying for Cayo South at the 6th. Alexander Peters made it 3-1 for Valley with goals at the 12th and 34th minute, before Avery Valdez closed the gap to 3-2 with his strike for Cayo South at the 45th minute. The slug fest continued in the second half, with Valley again getting the better of the action, with goals from Karim Peters and Harrison Tasher at the 51st and 86th minute, respectively. Edmond Pandy had Cayo South’s only reply at the 70th minute, for the final 6-3 score in favor of the Valley.

In the first Sunday afternoon game, Lucky Strike fans finally had something to cheer about, as their Lucky Strike Black Orchid pulled out a hard fought 2-1 win over visiting Tsunami F.C. from Caye Caulker. After a scoreless first half, Black Orchid got two “lucky strikes”, Alexander Viamil at the 53rd and Jermaine Zuniga at the 66th minute, for a 2-nil lead. Tsunami’s Rupert Smith cut the lead in half with his goal at the 80th minute, but Lucky Strike held on to the 2-1 lead for their first semipro victory.

Meanwhile, up north at the Ricalde Stadium in Corozal, high-flying visitors Texmar Boys were brought down to earth by a one-man army, as Barrio Fino’s Francisco Vella was unstoppable, blasting four goals and leading the home team to a 4-3 victory over last year’s champions. Texmar jumped to an early 1-nil lead with a Carlos Valles goal at the 8th minute, but Vella tied it up for Barrio Fino at the 10th. Arnold Torres then put Texmar on top again at the 11th minute, but Vella cut loose with goals at the 35th and 45th minute for the 3-2 half time lead. Vella struck again at the 81st minute, making it 4 -2. Texmar’s Paul Linarez got his team’s third goal at the 84th minute, but it was not enough. 4 -3, Barrio Fino Corozal over Texmar Boys.

The other game scheduled for yesterday afternoon at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk between San Felipe Barcelona and Western Rebels F.C., postponed due to bad weather, has been re-scheduled to this Wednesday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the same venue.
