BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 15, 2017–Both games in the National Amateur Women’s League football tournament semifinals this past weekend ended in deadlocked scores. Game 1 of the home-and-away semifinal series pitted the best two teams from the North and South groups going against each other, with the North #1, Belize City FC travelling to the South #2, Sagitun Strikers; and the South #1, Jewel Fury going to the North #2, Gladiators, both games being played yesterday, Sunday. And both ended with deadlocked scores.

At the M.A. Stadium in Independence, home standing Sagitun Strikers struck first through Erica Vallecillo (36’); but, after Belize City FC responded with goals from Shanell Gentle, (67’) and Araceli Lambey (80’), Sagitun just managed to secure the 2-2 draw with a late goal from Karissa Rhamdas (88’).

Up north at the People’s Stadium, the home team was again on the scoreboard first, as Gladiators FC got an early strike from Kaite Jones (2’); but Belmopan’s Jewel Fury FC got the equalizer shortly after from Gisel Baeza (11’), and it remained that way, 1-1, till the final whistle.

The semifinals take a break this weekend, with the decisive game 2 of the series set for next weekend:

Saturday, May 27, Semifinals Game 2
3:30 p.m. – Jewel Fury vs Gladiators FC – FFB Stadium
7:30 p.m. – Belize City FC vs Sagitun Strikers – MCC Grounds
