Sports Mike’s 8-Ball Tournament in Belmopan – Shattaz leads!!!

BELMOPAN, Thurs. Nov. 5, 2015–The second week of the Mike’s 8-Ball Tournament, being sanctioned and organized by the Belmopan Billiards Association, concluded with games played on Sunday, November 1. The games are played “race-to-4.”  Below are the results.

Match #1: Shattaz blanked Eagles, 3-0. Jason Tsu continued to look good, as he dropped Elmer Rhodas, 4-0; Rony Ramos roughed-up Jose Alvarenga, 4-2, after Jose was up 2-0, but Rony won 4 in a row to be victorious; and Elder Paredes zipped Carlos Martinez, 4-0.

Match #2: Special Effects hurt Twin Stars, 2-1. For Special Effects, Wayne Wiltshire won Moises Aguirre, 4-2; and David Fernandez dropped Roberto Sanabria, 4-1. For Twin Stars, Sam Yam said “Here I am,” as he defeated Erwin Woodye, 4-2.

Match #3: Las Flores won Palma Strikers, 2-1. For Las Flores, Salvador Orellana edged Danilo Rivera, 4-3; and Ernest Borland also got past Jose Palma, 4-3. For Palmas, it was Noe Palma over Oscar Avelar, 4-2.

Match #4: Set-Up won Eagles, 2-1.  This was the first victory for Set-Up, as Kenny Arnold won Jose Alvarenga, 4-1; and Sergeant Sheridan Lemoth made some big bangs, precise plays, and really smart shots, to silently say, “Keep calm, Carlos,” as he defeated Carlos Martinez, 4-1. For Eagles, it was Elmer Rodas who downed  Dean “Dino” Flowers, 4-0.

Match #5:  Palma Strikers struck down BRC Shooters, 2-1. For Palmas, Noe Palma once again came up big for his team, as he won Tim Banman, 4-1; and Danilo Rivera got over Dwayne Garbutt in a close one, 4-3. For BRC, it was the deadly Mark Trujillo over Victor Orellana, 4-2.
Match #6: Shattaz won Las Flores, 2-1. For Shattaz, Jason Tsu got past Julio Hernandez in a competitive game, 4-3; and Elder Paredes won Salvador Orellana, 4-1. For Las Flores, it was Ernest Borland who rallied Rony Ramos, 4-1.

Match #7:  Special Effects defeated Set-Up, 2-1. For Special Effects, David Fernandez took care of Kenny Arnold, 4-1; while Wayne Wiltshire won Sheridan Lemoth, 4-2; and for Set-Up, Floyd Thimbriel tortured Edmund Guy, 4-2.

Points to date: Shattaz (10); Special Effects and Las Flores (8); Palma Strikers and BRC Shooters (5); Set-Up, Eagles, and Twin Stars (3).

Note:  One back match between Twin Stars and BRC Shooters, to be played on Saturday, November 7 at 5:00 p.m. Therefore, they have played one match less than other teams, with each team having a possible maximum 3 points to be earned.

Top shooters to date:  (Won 4, lost 0) – Jason Tsu of Shattaz; Wayne “Mangis” Wiltshire and David Fernandez of Special Effects. (Won 3, lost 0) – Mark “Bukis” Trujillo of BRC Shooters, who has a back match, so can reach the 4-0 category; and Noe Palma of Palma Strikers, but he had missed one game.

Games continue on Sunday, November 8, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Mike’s Cue Club.  Go out and check out how they Rack ‘em UP!!
