John Russell Lamb Myers, Jr., 52, of Oleander Street in Belize City, spent his last hours this morning on Mahogany Street wishing a teenage daughter (in high school) happy birthday.
A few minutes later, he was dead, after an argument outside a fast food shop on the busy roadway, and one person is now in police custody, believed by his family to be his assailant.
Sometime before 9:30 this morning, his family confirmed, he was drinking when he got into an argument with a resident of the house in which the shop, S and S Fast Food, is located (on the lower flat). He was apparently making too much noise for the liking of this individual.
But after responding that this was a free country and that he could do what he liked, he was attacked. We are told that fists and an unidentified object were used to administer the fatal beating; and that an attempt was made to revive him, unsuccessfully.
Police responded almost immediately, and as they taped off the crime scene, a curious crowd composed of area residents, a few political campaigners out making early rounds, and others, gathered to watch.
The family of “Junior Lamb” told Amandala this afternoon that they were aware of Russell Lamb’s problems with his assailant, who had tangled with him several times prior to today, but to hear, as they did, a few minutes after the body was discovered, that their loved one was dead, was “unexpected,” and that it “should not have come to this, to death.”
Myers, they told us, was not one to start any altercation, or was even much of a troublemaker.
