On Wednesday, June 11, the 2014 Belize City Female Softball Competition kicked off at Rogers Stadium with the first game of the season – newcomers Belize Bank Blazers (BBB) vs defending champions Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL).

BBB opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Sharette Vernon reached base on an error by BTL second baseman Kmani Williams, and later scored on a single to left-centre by Greta Davis.

In the top of the 2nd inning, BBB’s Marsha Will reached base on BTL 2nd baseman Kmani Williams’ second error for the night. Will later scored on errors committed by BTL’s shortstop and first baseman, respectively.

In the top of the 3rd inning, BBB doubled their lead when Sharette Vernon got on base by yet another error committed by BTL’s infield. She later scored on a home run by left-fielder Joline Davis.

Finally, BTL responded in the bottom of the 3rd with a single by Lydia Cacho, who later scored on Earlene Belisle’s single to centerfield, which would be BTL’s only run of the night.

In the 4th inning, the BBB extended their lead when Marsha Will hit a double to centerfield and later scored on Ashley Lucas’ single to right field. Ashley Lucas later scored on an error committed by BTL’s second baseman which allowed Kiri Lizama to reach on base. Lizama later stole second and scored on yet another error by the BTL defence. BBB would go on to score 4 more runs at the end of this inning, leading BTL by a score of 8 to 1.

In the 5th and final inning of the game, the Belize Bank Blazers added an additional run when Tyra Moreira singled to right field and later scored on a wild pitch.

BTL batted in the bottom of the 5th but was unable to recover, and the game ended with Belize Bank Blazers defeating Belize Telemedia Limited by a score of 9 to 1.

Winning pitcher was Ashley Lucas, and the loss was charged to Kenisha Sutherland. In the victory, the Belize Bank Blazers got their 9 runs on 7 hits and they committed 2 errors and left 3 on base; while BTL scored their 1 run on 4 hits and they committed 7 errors and left 5 on base.
