PM’s office: “no comment” on US$100,000 oil bribe

GeneralPM’s office: “no comment” on US$100,000 oil bribe
According to Cabinet Secretary Robert Leslie, the Prime Minister’s Office will not respond to a charge made last week on the UDP’s Wave Radio by a Mr. Allen Saum, who said he represented a foreign company, Myles Tropical Energy, and that he (Saum) had paid a $100,000 US bribe (cash) to an “emissary” of the Government of Belize for the purpose of gaining favors, specifically, oil exploration rights to a parcel of land.

The Cabinet Secretary said that as there is no concrete evidence…no name, receipt or any such document to give substance to the accusation, the PM’s Office did not think the matter warranted comment.

In respect to the sale of the embattled medical facility, Universal Health Services, efforts to get an update from the Hon. Jose Coye, Minister of Health, were not successful. At the time of our call the Honorable Minister was visiting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Belmopan, we were told.

We were also reliably informed that Honorable Coye would not be available for comment soon, as he was leaving the country Tuesday morning. Amandala’s efforts to contact the Financial Secretary, Mr. Joe Waight, on the Universal Health Services (UHS) matter, were also unsuccessful up to press time.
