Officials of the Government of Belize this morning briefed the media on the upcoming tour of Prince Harry (born Henry Charles Albert David), scheduled to be undertaken in Belize from Friday, March 2, to Saturday, March 3, 2012.

The prince—representing the Queen of England, Elizabeth II, on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee, sixty years of her reign—is to arrive at the Philip Goldson International Airport at around 4:25 p.m. via private flight. He will be met on arrival by representatives of the ruling and Opposition parties, and given the Royal Salute by Belize Defence Force soldiers. After a walk down the red carpet, he pays a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dean Barrow at the airport’s VIP Lounge.

He leaves that venue for Belmopan, where he is scheduled to meet Governor-General Sir Colville Young at the Belize House in Belmopan for a private meeting. Prince Harry would also view the recently released commemorative stamps released in honor of the queen.

Later that evening, he is to attend a gathering at Cohune Walk in Belmopan, which will be renamed in the Queen’s honor.

He is also to deliver a message from the queen.

Following the Cohune Walk celebration, the Prince is to move on to San Ignacio Town. On Saturday, he is scheduled to visit the Organization of American States’ office in the Adjacency Zone, along the Belize-Guatemala border, where he will have his first major interface with Belizean and Guatemalan children. Next would be his Xunantunich outing, planned for later that morning. At this stop, he is expected to interface with 150 to 175 children, including those in the Special Olympics group.

Prince Harry’s visit to Belize will feature cultural highlights from the various ethnic groups: Maya, Mestizo, Garifuna, Creole and others.

On Saturday, he is slated to present the Jubilee Canoe to the Ruta Maya Children’s team.

Before his departure from Belize, he is to visit the BDF headquarters at Price Barracks, Ladyville, as well as British military personnel in Belize. Finally, Prince Harry, training to become an army pilot, is to lay a wreath on the graves of British soldiers who died while serving here.

The visit is scheduled to be just under a day long, at 23.5 hours. He is due to depart at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, for the next locations on his tour: Jamaica then The Bahamas.
