BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 22, 2016–The Proto Foundation U-13 and U-15 Five-A-Side Football Tournament games continued at the Noel Ferguson Park near Cinderella Plaza over the past two weekends on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

February 12-13: On Friday night, February 12, U-13 action saw Kelly Street with a 2-0 win over Jungle, with Jallen and Aaron White netting a goal apiece. And in U-15, Maltus Bombers and Kenny’s FC drew, nil-nil.

The planned official opening ceremonies for the tournament on Friday night were postponed. We met Proto Foundation President, Mark Usher, at the games on Saturday, and he confided that he was unexpectedly occupied at his job as an engineer in southern Belize. But the soft spoken Mark insisted that what was important to him was that the kids are playing, and the work of his Foundation, which also involves evening tutoring for members, is ongoing inside the Foundation building which borders the park bleachers. He showed us around the two adjacent class rooms, one for males and the other for females, each with its own bathroom.

On Saturday, in U-13 action, Reality Youth drew, 0-0, with Berger United. Sampson 1356 Automotive dropped Kelly Street, 1-0, on a goal by Kayia Requena. And Hattieville Riverside Boys clipped Carlston FC, 2-0, with a goal each from Max Jones and Lawnie Leslie. And in U-15 games, Hattieville Riverside Boys won, 1-0, over Collet FC, with Jason Cho scoring for Hattieville. King’s Park Rangers drew, 0-0, with M&M Engineering. And Matus Bombers won by default over Berger United.

February 19-20: The games continued this past Friday night, February 19. In U-13, Carlston FC edged Kelly Street, 1-0, on a goal by Tasheed Henry. And Hattieville Riverside Boys dropped Reality Youth, 1-0, with a goal from Aaron Hendricks. In U-15, it was Hattieville Riverside Boys, 1-1, with Carlston FC. Michael Robinson scored for Hattieville, while Lynn Augustine tallied for Carlston. And Kenny’s FC drew, 1-1, with King’s Park Rangers. Egbert Myers got the goal for Kenny’s, while Serio Andre hit the target for Rangers.

The action resumed on Saturday afternoon, February 20, with one U-13 game, as Sampson 1356 Automotive shut out Hattieville Riverside Boys, 2-0, with both goals coming from D’Jon Canelo. In U-15, Carlston FC got the 1-nil win over King’s Park Rangers on a goal by Leonardo Awayo. Hattieville Riverside Boys won, 1-0, over Kenny’s FC, with Jason McGregor scoring the only goal. And Matus Bombers prevailed, 3-2, over M&M Engineering.
