SportsRaiders U-13 and Yabra U-15, champions of NSC Youth Football Summer Tournament 2008
The National Sports Council Youth Football Summer Tournament climaxed early this week with semifinal games on Monday, August 18, and the championship finals in both U-13 and U-15 categories on Tuesday, August 19, at the Third World football field near St. Martin’s parish in Lake Independence.

In the semifinals on Monday, formerly undefeated U-13 Ladyville Jaguars ended their championship hopes when they fell 1-0 to Third World, who got the winning goal from Raheem Hendy. And U-13 Raiders convincingly defeated Back-A-Town, 3-0, on goals from Ivory Copious, Brian Williams and Brian White. U-15 Caesar Ridge remained undefeated when they blanked Third World, 3-0, with a goal from Victor Franklin and two from leading scorer Michael Augustine. And U-15 Yabra turned back Back-A-Town, 2-1, on goals by John Valerio and Tyrone Guy. Back-A-Town’s goal was by Ledwin Dixon.

The U-13 final on Tuesday was decided by a penalty kick, as Ivory Copious converted to lead Raiders to the 1-nil victory over Third World to claim the U-13 championship. The U-15 finals between Yabra and Caesar Ridge ended 0-0 in regulation, but Yabra proved more proficient in the ensuing penalties, with Troy Bodden, Brian Williams and John Valerio converting for the 3-0 victory and the U-15 championship.
