Patchakan man found lying on road

Otto Espat, 50, of San Ignacio, was found lying on the floor at the back of a passenger bus, between the last set of seats, at about 3: 00 Saturday evening. The bus was travelling from Belmopan to Benque.

Espat’s body was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to certify the cause of death.

Police, however, are not suspecting foul play, and are declaring that the death was due to natural causes.

In an unrelated incident, another corpse – that of Enrique Carcamo, 53, of Patchakan, Corozal, was found lying on the roadside by the Qunil Lagoon at about 4: 30 p.m. on Friday and was taken to the Corozal Hospital morgue.

Transito Carcamo, Enrique’s brother, told police that on Friday, he and his brother went to the Quintal Lagoon between Patchakan and Chan Chen Villages in Corozal. His brother jumped into the water, Transito told police, and did not resurface.

Transito said that he quickly jumped in and searched for his brother, and he found him. According to Transito, he took Enrique out of the water and put him to lie down and tried to help him, but he apparently had already died.

When police went to the scene, they found Carcamo lying by the roadside. He was taken to the Corozal Hospital morgue, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Transito reported that his brother had been suffering from ill health and other difficulties. Police said that no signs of violence were observed on the body, and foul play is not suspected.
