CrimeSanta Elena man busted with shotgun and cartridges

Rodel Guerra, 27, of Carmen Street, Santa Elena, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on charges of “kept firearm and ammunition without a gun license” after he was busted with a 16-gauge shotgun and fourteen 16-gauge shotgun cartridges yesterday.

He was taken to the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court today, where he appeared in front of Magistrate Narda Morgan, who arraigned him on the charges. He will be returned to court on Monday, August 25.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Police said that they were on mobile patrol on Carmen Street when they saw Guerra with the shotgun in a yard, and when he saw them coming, he dropped the gun and ran.

Police quickly picked up the gun and, searching the area, found a bag containing 14 shotgun cartridges. Guerra was later found in the town and taken into custody.
