Sherlene Sabal’s vehicle destroyed by arson

GeneralSherlene Sabal’s vehicle destroyed by arson
And while Sherlene Sabal, paymistress for Belize City Council, is now in a dispute with Gilroy Usher, owner of First Stop Pawn Shop over unpaid money due his pawn shop (see story below) she had her own problems today, as someone lit her car on fire.

Police say that they visited her residence at #4080 Central American Boulevard, where her white 1996 Toyota Corolla car, license late number, C-27749, was seen with the interior damaged by fire.

The neighbors assisted her in extinguishing the fire. The scene was processed and a plastic bottle containing suspected kerosene was found near the car. Police investigations continue.

Amandala spoke to Sabal about the incident.

Sherlene Sabal: “It was about 3:50. this morning when we heard the car alarm go off and we looked through the window. I told my common-law husband that I saw smoke so we rushed out and try to do something about it. I shouted for my children and we left the house because we saw the car on fire.

“My common-law got there before us and he saw a bottle of what we thought was gasoline. We tried to move it away from the fire and my children called the fire department and we tried to out the fire on our own.

“The bottle that we saw was a little bit more than half-filled. What happened was that one of the glasses to the side of the car was broken and it was taped up. I figure that they opened the tape, found a cloth inside and soaked the cloth with gasoline [police say that it was kerosene oil], lit it and threw it in the car along with a bit more gas.”

She said that she made a report to the police and gave a formal statement and is depending on the police to solve it. Also she said that the vehicle costs about $5,000 and was insured, but the insurance company doesn’t want to compensate her because arson isn’t covered under the contract.

She also said that she thinks that it is an act of arson, but she doesn’t want to accuse anyone of it. She said that she just wanted to let the person who did it know that she doesn’t want any further trouble, and that there is a God who is looking down on what they are doing.
