GeneralShooting victim Frank Vasquez, 29, dies in hospital

Frank Vasquez, 29, a mechanic of Neal Pen Road, died of injuries sustained in a shooting incident on Saturday, May 5, on Wednesday morning at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

Vasquez had been riding toward Central American Boulevard from Neal Pen Road when a single man known only as “Alex” rode up and fired at him.

Vasquez had been stabilized initially at the KHMH and was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove a bullet that had lodged dangerously near the spine, but he died before the surgery could be performed.

According to family members, the father of three was out on an errand buying dog food and walking his dog when he was shot.

Vasquez was previously targeted in 2007 on Neal’s Pen Road and first gained public attention as a Crown witness in the trial of three men accused of murdering a San Pedro resident in 2002. That case was eventually overturned by the Privy Council because the Crown practiced a wrong procedure in granting immunity to Vasquez as a witness, and relying solely on his testimony, despite fatal inconsistencies.

Vasquez’s death makes him the second murder victim this month and forty-third overall by Amandala’s count for the year.
