Smart 13 & Under reg. season ends, knockout semifinals this Saturday

The last regular season games to determine the 4 playoff teams in the 3rd Annual Smart 13 & Under Football Tournament were held on Saturday, July 5, at the Yabra football field. With 3 teams already assured of a spot in the semifinals, all eyes were focused on the showdown between Ladyville Jaguars and Brown Bombers, which was the 4th scheduled match of the day. The Jaguars needed a victory, while the Bombers, who were 1 point ahead, could settle for a draw. And that’s exactly how it ended, 1-1, after Brown Bombers’ Dion Cacho converted from the penalty spot in second half, and D’Jon Canelo equalized from a free kick a minute before the long whistle.

Earlier in the day in game 1, Third World got the 1-nil win over Carlston FC, on a goal by Dante Fabro. Game 2 was a 0-0 stalemate between two playoff bound teams, Collet Strikers and City Boys. In game 3, Rising Stars, also playoff bound, drilled a short-staffed Heights FC, 6-nil, with Camryn Lozano netting 4 goals, and Bjarne Gabourel and Frannon Broaster scoring 1 apiece. After the Jaguars vs Bombers clash, the last game of the afternoon saw London Strikers edging Hattieville United, 1-0, on a goal by Lamar Sutherland.

The back match between London Strikers and Carlston FC will not be played, as it cannot affect the playoffs, which are scheduled for this Saturday.

NOTE: Saturday’s games are starting early, to allow for the World Cup game in the afternoon.

Semifinals schedule:
Saturday, July 12, Yabra Field
10:00 a.m. – #1 City Boys vs #4 Brown Bombers
11:00 a.m. – #2 Rising Stars vs #3 Collet Strikers
