SportsSmart 13 & Under Mundialito football tournament 2017 Week 1 results, April 22, MCC

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Apr. 24, 2017–The 6th Annual Smart 13 & Under Mundialito football tournament kicked off on Saturday, April 22, after opening ceremonies at the MCC Grounds, where all 12 participating teams saw action in Week 1 of the competition. It’s a single round-robin tournament, with all teams in action each Saturday at the MCC. Special guest speaker at Saturday’s opening was semipro football star Jarret Davis, who did the ceremonial kick-off of the first ball to start the tournament, after advising all the kids to “stay in school.” As traditional, all uniforms for participating teams were provided by the sponsors, Smart.

In the opener on Saturday, Brown Bombers and City Boys played to a 0-0 draw. In game 2, Ladyville Rising Stars defeated their village rivals, Ladyville Jaguars, 3-0, with goals from Marvin Card, Steven Rivera and Kenrick Gordon. Game 3 saw Hattieville Riverside Boys in a 0-0 draw with Carlston FC. Game 4 was also a scoreless draw, 0-0, between Collet Strikers and Warriors FC. In game 5, Reality Youth clipped Belize Elementary, 1-nil, with a goal from Glenford Thomas. And in game 6, Heights FC got the 1-nil win over Sampson Academy, with a goal from Kyjuan Kirkwood.
