TEAKETTLE, Cayo District, Sun. Jan. 28, 2018– Clifford Reyes and his family of Teakettle are devastated after an initial investigation revealed that an SUV driven by a relative knocked down his 2-year-old daughter, Sophie, at about 4:00 yesterday evening.
Elba Cruz, 30, Reyes’ sister-in-law, had just driven into Reyes’ yard to bring motor oil for him from the store for a vehicle he was repairing. As Cruz was reversing out of the yard after delivering the oil, she knocked down the child.
The baby was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital, but nothing could have been done to save her, and she was declared dead about 10 minutes after arriving at the facility.
Clifford Reyes said that while his sister-in-law was reversing her SUV, two men on separate motorcycles drove into the yard blaring their horns, and told them that the vehicle had just run over the child.
Reyes said that he immediately looked under the vehicle and saw his daughter, and she was bleeding from the mouth and head. He rushed her to the hospital, but the child had already died.
Cruz has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
