SportsTut Bay FC wins CYDP Peace Cup 2014

BELIZE CITY—The best-of-2 games championship series in the CYDP Peace Cup 2014 tournament was played over the weekend at the Hostel Field, with Tut Bay emerging champions over second place North Front Street. Tut Bay won their first meeting on Saturday afternoon, 2-1; but on Sunday in their second meeting, they ended up in penalties, after an aggregate tie in regulation and overtime. Tut Bay prevailed 3-0 in the penalty shootout to claim the championship, while North Front Street settled for 2nd place.

In the third place match, which was played at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Police Department defeated Kelly Street in a penalty shootout after they ended tied 1-1 in regulation and overtime.

The games were well attended, especially on Sunday, although most of the fans had to shelter underneath the cement bleachers from the hot sun, since there are no zinc roofs over the bleachers.

According to today’s CYDP release, individual prizes were awarded to: Best Goalkeeper – Jason Thurton (Tut Bay); Best Forward – Brian Martinez (Tut Bay); Best Midfielder – Raymond Marin (North Front Street); MVP – Delroy Andrews (Tut Bay); Most Goals Scorer – Kadeem Myers (North Front Street); Most Disciplined Team – Police Street; Most Disciplined Player – Arthur Clivers (Police Street); Best Coach – Shanell Gentle (North Front Street); Best Manager – Alford Grinage (Police Department); Best Fan Base – Tut Bay team; Rookie of the Year – Shadeed Mai (North Front Street); Best Team Newcomer – Bayside Boys.
