Two murders in 14 hours – Leon Beeks and Edgar Seguro shot to death

GeneralTwo murders in 14 hours - Leon Beeks and Edgar Seguro shot to death
This morning, two armed, hooded cyclists descended on a furniture factory on Krooman Road just after 9 o’clock and opened fire on two new employees.

Factory owner Rhett Fuller says he had just hired the men, and had no idea that they may have been connected to any crime, criminal activity, or had gang affiliation. The men had just started to work two days ago, he said.

Fuller said he had a lot of work in his factory and they had come in asking for work. He got a call about 9:20 this morning, Thursday, and rushed over to find his place riddled with holes from what appeared to be 9mm bullets, one of his new employees lifeless, shot in the head, and the second shot in the shoulder.

The murder comes just over fourteen hours after the last murder, which happened last night at about 7:00 in Belize City.

Krooman Road cuts through the east side of the northern end of Fabers Road, to exit on the Western Highway. Police had the street cordoned off by the time Amandala got there, an hour after the killing.

Police said they were not releasing the name of the victim until family members could be notified.

We have since been informed that the dead man is Leon Beeks, while his companion is Marvin Reyes, age unknown for both. This action is said to be in retaliation for the killing of Windell Allen that occurred on Easter Sunday night in Belize City.

As to last night’s murder, at about 7:20, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where they observed Prison Officer Edgar Seguro, 24, of #2920 Flamboyant Street, Belize City, suffering from gunshot wounds to the lower abdomen area.

Seguro’s mother and family live in Biscayne Village in the Belize District. His family are very distraught because the deceased is known as a hard working, family-oriented, dedicated father of three. What makes it even more depressing for family members is the cavalier attitude they claim the police are taking toward the case. They are claiming that the police are treating the case as if Edgar was a common criminal.

Police say that at about 7:00 p.m., whilst Seguro was standing in front of a residence on Oleander Street on Southside Belize City, a man passed him and fired in his direction.

Seguro was hit a number of times in the abdomen and genital area. He died whilst undergoing surgery some five hours later, at about 12:35 a.m., at the KHMH.

Seguro’s mother told Amandala that while the surgery was still ongoing, a doctor came out and told them that he was very weak, but that he would survive.

They sat down and waited, the mother said, and then some time later, another doctor came out and said that the other doctor had gone off shift, but that Seguro had died.

Police have no motives, no leads, and no suspect(s).
