HighlightsWoman charged for being drunk in a public place

Today, Tuesday, in Belize City Magistrate’s Court, Ernestina Reneau, a 43-year-old domestic of Belize City, was granted bail after being found drunk in a public place.

Reneau pleaded not guilty to the charge and was given bail of $500 plus one surety of the same amount. She is to reappear in court on August 6, 2013.

While on bail, she is to stay away from the virtual complainants and prosecution witness. Violation of bail conditions will result in her bail being revoked.

Reneau, a resident of Wilson Street in Belize City, was arrested and charged for the offense on June 10, 2013, after police responded to a call from residents on Wilson Street around 11:30 a.m. that day, saying that Reneau was making a lot of noise on the street.

According to reports, Reneau was found crying and shouting obscenities, apparently under the influence of alcohol. Police reported that she was staggering and they had to assist her into the police mobile.

Reneau was informed of her offense and taken to the police station, where she was formally charged.
