10-0 UNDEFEATED CHAMPS!!!! MESOP/GUARDIAN ?BOMBERS?

Sports10-0 UNDEFEATED CHAMPS!!!! MESOP/GUARDIAN ?BOMBERS?

?BWSL? took an early 4-0 lead at the start of the game as swingman, Jason Munnings, scored a lay-up and Karim Thompson, despite nursing a severely sprained left ankle, hit two free throws. However, Bijon Griffith and Dwayne Davis of the ?Bombers? scored consecutive field goals to tie the game at 4 apiece. Meanwhile, ?BWSL? Jamir Enriquez appeared a bit more confident than he was in Game 1, hitting for 8 first half points. Nevertheless, ?BWSL? found themselves down at the half, 28-23, as Bernard Felix hit for two big-treys late in the half.

Early in the second half ?Mesop? began a surge which caught their opponents completely by surprise, as they administered a full court press which caused problems for the ?BWSL? team, who, unfortunately, were without the services of their point guard and team leader, Patrick Simmons. Patrick took himself out of the game and appeared to be ailing on the sidelines. This spurt enabled ?Mesop? to take an early 39-31 lead in the second half.

?BWSL? fought back with a box-and-one defense against Bernard Felix, which neutralized him by taking the ball out of his hands. This defense for a moment destabilized the flow of ?Mesop? offense, and as a result ?BWSL? were able to tie the game at 41-41 with 5:52 remaining in regulation.

After a ?Mesop? timeout, Dwayne Davis hit a field goal and this apparently reenergized his team as they went on an 8-0 run, extending the lead to 49-41 with 4:18 remaining. But just when everything appeared bleak for ?BWSL?, and with the trophies and rings being transported into the arena by league officials, ?BWSL?, like a dying man gasping for one last breath, made a final surge, outscoring their opponents, 17-10, and subsequently pulling to within one of ?Mesop?, 59-58, with 0:32 seconds remaining.

But a critical delay of game call by one of the referees against ?BWSL?, resulted in free-throws being awarded to ?Mesop?. This, coupled with another big turnover by Deon Andrews of ?BWSL?, basically decided the losers? fate, as ?BWSL? had to resort to fouling their opponents to stop the clock. Unfortunately for them, ?Mesop? capitalized on all its free throw attempts and extended the lead with time expiring to 64-59, winning the 2005 Interoffice Championship in resounding fashion – going 10-0, sweeping the finals, and, more importantly, winning their first championship in just their first outing.
