General15 years in prison for Jason ?Blackout? Flores, 30, convicted of carnal knowledge of child, 10

The incident occurred on New Year?s Day, January 1, 1999, at the jetty, near the beach in Dangriga.

The complainant, who is now 16, testified en camera (in the absence of a courtroom audience). She said she was at Why Not Island Park alone when she was picked up by Flores in his car. She testified that she went with Flores because she knew him because he would normally transport members of her family in his car.

The girl said Flores took her to the beach and beat her with a metal pipe on her head, neck and knees before he raped her. The girl was found unconscious on the beach on the following day, January 2, 1999.

The prosecution, represented by Crown Counsels Kamar Henry and Anthony Sylvestre, Jr., called 8 other witnesses.

Flores, who was not represented by an attorney, testified from the witness stand, denying that he committed the offences.

The jury deliberated for less than 45 minutes before they found Flores guilty of the charges. On September 27, 2000, after the conclusion of a preliminary investigation at Dangriga Magistrate?s Court in which Flores? case was committed for trial in the Supreme Court, Flores escaped from police custody while he was being escorted out of the Magistrate?s Court. He had been remanded to prison.

Flores absconded to the United States, but was deported to Belize in July, 2004, after he was picked up by U.S. Immigration Officers for being an illegal immigrant.
